Apply for a Concealed Weapons Permit

You need to pick up a permit application from the dispatcher at the police department. You will also be provided with a booklet explaining the laws relating to permits to carry concealed weapons. You must be able to show proof that you have either taken a handgun safety course or have been a member of the US Armed Forces. After receiving your application, the department will conduct a criminal history check as well as checking a mental illness history check. The issuing authority (Chief of Police) shall also determine whether an applicant is eligible for a CWP based on judging the moral character of the applicant. An initial application costs $35.00 while a renewal costs $20.00. Once an application is returned to the police department, the background checks are usually completed within 30 days. A CWP is valid for 4 years.
