New Restaurant to Open in Downtown Ellsworth

ELLSWORTH — A chef and former farm manager have opened a lunch café on State Street in Ellsworth.

86 This is the creation of Jeff and Diane Kelly-Lokocz.

Jeff was the head chef last year in Blue Hill at the former Table. Before that, he was the chef de cuisine at Cleonice for five years.

Diane managed Beech Hill Farm in Mount Desert for five years.

“This just kind of seemed like a good time to start our own thing,” she said.

The goal is to serve “simple good food that people can get quickly and reasonably affordably,” said Diane. “We both love food and come from restaurant/food backgrounds,” she said. They thought Ellsworth would be a good place to have a quick lunch place.

86 This is open Monday through Friday 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

They have wraps, which are served cold and burritos, which are served hot as well as side dishes and cookies.
“I like making wraps,” said Jeff.  “It’s what I personally eat. I like to mash all my food together.”

86 This has several wraps and burritos on the menu such as The Clash, which is roast beef with Harmony Mills Farm Cheddar, carmelized onions, horseradish mayonnaise and greens or the Turkey Driver, smoked turkey, bacon, lettuce, tomato and provolone.
Or you can build your own with several ingredients including chipotle and citrus pulled pork, shredded chicken, roasted spicy sweet potatoes and avocado to name just a few.
Wraps are white, wheat, spinach or gluten-free.
The couple hopes that having a lunch restaurant will help them create a balance between work and home life.
“It’ll be nice to go home at 6 o’clock and have dinner with my family.” They are expecting their first child in a few weeks.
The name comes from a Google blog Jeff started for himself and others in the food industry as a place to gripe when loved ones are sick of listening to you, he said.

When a cook runs out of something he tells the servers the item is 86.

Waiters would occasionally snap at him “86 this,” accompanied by a hand gesture.

The couple is trying to use as much food from local farms as possible. They serve coffee from the Deer Isle coffee roasters, 44 North.
